New to nitro cars?
Here are some important tips:
Nitro cars are becoming more and more popular, with many hobbyists lining up to build a kit
and relive the fun and excitement of RC toys. However, owning and operating a nitro car is far from child’s
play and can be quite complex and complicated. Before you make a purchase, consider these points to make sure you
pick up the right model for you.

Know your terrain!
It is important when choosing between different trucks to know where you plan to use it. Not all
trucks are made to withstand the same rough terrain. If you are planning on taking your truck off road then you
need to purchase a model which is made for rough, loose and unpredictable driving surfaces. If you are only going
to race your truck on smooth concrete or pavement then any road-racing model will do.
Choose a kit!
Though it is possible to build your own nitro trucks, purchasing a kit is a better option for
beginners. This will allow for you to become familiar with the hobby before investing a lot of money. Buying a
pre-fabricated kit does not mean that you will have to sacrifice on quality or durability. Most kits are well-made
and include everything you will need to make some reliable, enjoyable and impressive nitro trucks.
Read your instructions!
We know it’s hard when you first purchase your truck kit to take the time to read instructions!
You want to get to the fun stuff as soon as possible right? But remember, reading the instructions and building
your radio controlled trucks properly will ensure that your model performs to its best potential and can end up
saving you money in repairs or alterations down the road!
Start small!
When shopping for trucks it can be easy to become overwhelmed and confused by the cast variety
of kits and models available. Just remember to take your experience under consideration. Buying a kit or model
which is too advanced will only lead to wasted time and money not to mention feelings of disappointment and
frustration. When choosing your model, start with a simple design and work your way up to something more complex.
Like real vehicles, it is best to start off with a simple, inexpensive option and then gradually move towards more
intense and complicated truck models.
How to get started with your new truck!
Getting started with a new hobby always takes quite a bit of commitment. However, when exploring
the world of gas powered RC cars and trucks, safety should always be consider above all else. Due to the fact that
nitro radio controlled trucks can be slightly unpredictable when new and unused, it is vital that you follow the
appropriate steps right from the beginning.
If you are new to the hobby and unsure how to get started, here is a step by step guide:
1. Begin by placing your truck on a starter block. This will prevent the truck from speedy off
while you are trying to complete the beginning stages.
2. Take the time to tune your fuel tank appropriately. You will want your fuel intake to be
running rich and consistent. To make sure that your trucks are operating smoothly with a rich fuel/air mixture
lower your air intake and run the engine while it is fuel heavy.
3. Once you have run your trucks for a minute or two you will need to dial in the appropriate
mix and adjust the speed/engine temperature and the idle needles in the carburetor. If you have followed all of the
steps properly your exhaust should produce blue smoke.
4. Now, to continue you will need to remove the header from your trucks engine. Once you have
removed the header look in through the exhaust and spinning the engine until the piston is position properly in the
center.
5. Once you have positioned the pistons and prepared your fuel/air mixture you will need to
cover the engine in aluminum foil to ensure that it reaches a high enough temperature for burn-in.
6. Allow for your truck's engine to run idle until it reaches 190 degrees. This will help to
expand the metals in both the engine and the pistons. Once you have reached the required temperature, continue to
run the engine for another three minutes before shutting it off and allowing it to cool completely.
7. Repeat steps one through six another four times, making sure to let your trucks engine cool
completely in-between running times.
8. Once you have run the engine repeatedly, fill the fuel tank and allow for your radio
controlled truck to run through a full fuel tank. While the engine is running double check to make sure that your
piston position is not in need of adjustment.
9. Run your r/c trucks engine one more time through a full tank of fuel but this time make sure
to set your throttle at ¼ setting. Once your truck has completed this final run, remove the aluminum foil form the
engine and remove your truck form the starting block.
10. Let it rip! Test your truck's ability on different terrain making sure to take note of the
steering, wheel alignment and exhaust. Have fun!
